Have you ever wanted to experience a little bit of Dutch life in your own backyard? Well this bicycle can answer your prayers.
As someone who is interested in city planning and exploring the ways different urban environments affects people’s lives, The Netherlands came to be a prime example of wonder and study for this city planner fan. The Dutch have shown how life can be a little bit more lively and colorful by riding a bike and making it a daily form of transportation.
Unfortunately for me, I can not experience the wonders of “Ontvlechten” bike lanes or Dutch roundabouts. So the next best thing I did, was to bring a little bit of Dutch wonder to my home. I have driven other bicycles in the past as a kid and “American market” bicycles as an adult in the past five years. This Omafiets is on a different level compared to the bikes that came before it. So let take about the bike in detail and also my experience with the mailing done by Fedex.
1. How did Fedex handle the bike? The only issue that happen were the delays of the bike itself and that’s a minor issue. The battery and bike arrived in good condition and were handled with care.
2. I am proud to say that I assembled the remaining parts of the bike all by myself. It was daunting at first; it was my first time working on a bike, but the step by step video guide from there website helped me out a great deal. I was surprised by the blue bag containing the right tools needed for the bike assembly. One thing that did puzzle me was the functionality and relationship of the battery and the mini computer for the E-power itself. I was thinking to myself, “This can not be as easy as sliding the battery in place, locking the battery and pressing the power button and that’s it, everything works”. Well, it did work as simple as that. Now, you have to understand something. When you’re dealing with the dynamics of both Dutch and Japanese technology in this world you assume you must channel your inner Nikola Tesla to ponder how all of this will work on something like a dutch bike.
3. What about the bike itself? The dynamics on this bicycle are dazzling. Some might say that the weight of the bike gives the impression of driving a tank. The weight makes me think about the qualities of a tree: strong and resilient. You know that this is a serious industrial vehicle that has reliability and is functional when riding it.
It’s also interesting how cozy it feels when seating on the bike because of the upright position the bike puts you in. The bike can move smoothly even without the e-power battery, but only if you’re riding on a flat landscape that’s far away from hills and sloops. Adding the e-power with this bike makes it possible to ride anywhere despite any landscape. When you mix in the power of the electric assistance with this dutch bike, it makes a great vehicle even more impressive.
My experience with the bike has been a happy one so far, but I think it’s safe to say that there will be a bright future for me and this bike. I have shown family and friends this bike in person and the feedback from them has been great.
Once again, I feel grateful to have the ability to experience a genuine Dutch bicycle. I have read so much about them in books, seen them on computer screens; now I can embrace and express a small example of dutch living.

Everyone should buy this bike!!! I looked for the right eBike for months because I don’t really like how most of them look like big hulking bikes. Then I found this bike!
This Dutch bike is beautiful. It’s a show stopper in my town. I had great interactions with Steven and his team during the buying process. It’s wonderful to be about to talk to a real human. My bike took a long time to arrive due to all the global supply chain problems, but it was worth the wait.
The box arrived and I was able to put the bike together in about an hour. The battery arrived a few days later. Everything about the process from ordering online to going for my first ride has been easy and fun. I emailed Steven a bunch of random questions about the bike once it was together and he answered them. So wonderful!
I have the only Dutch bike in my town. Everyone stops me and asks about it. They can’t tell if its an ebike, which I love. There are so many thoughtful details on the bike that I didn’t even realize, like the Holland Made battery cover and little spring that keeps your wheel pointing forward when parked. The lights are great, the ride is smooth, the gears are great. The front rack pulls off and slides on very quickly, when you do/don’t want it, which is so wonderful. I love the double kickstand and I ordered the chain lock addition for the lock. I love the Dutch lock.
I really can’t say enough great things about the bike. I’m looking forward to a new year of commuting on my new bike. Thank you!

I am a very busy person (graduate student with a job and a family), so I have a hard time finding time to exercise. I have to get my movement in where I can. The best way I’ve discovered to do this is bicycle commuting.
So many things about this bicycle make commuting convenient! The sturdy front and rear racks carry whatever I need to bring with me, from books to yoga equipment to potluck meals. I even gave my 11-year-old a ride around the neighborhood on the rear rack. The enclosed chain case and dress guard allow me to wear whatever I want. The automatic shifter and electric assist help me get where I’m going without arriving dripping in sweat.
I got a plug-in chain for the frame lock, so it takes no time to lock up safely when I run into a store or attend my classes.
It’s such a joy to ride! I’m also very impressed with their customer service.
Steven was very helpful throughout the process of sizing and shipping. My dream bicycle was definitely worth the wait!

I am absolutely in love with this bike, it was worth every penny.
I have been trying to reduce my car usage since most of my journeys are less than 3 miles, and having an e-bike has made that transition a lot easier – I have a lot less anxiety about my speed on the roads compared to cars like I would on a normal bike. Also the smoothness and comfort of the ride is unparalleled, I can barely even feel anything when I’m riding on a brick road. It feels like I’m sitting on a comfy couch, but I’m on my bike.
The dutch style bike construction comes with a lot of benefits as well that are very practical, such as the built in locking mechanism, just a lot of things that make riding the bike easier to use more often. The customer service was also fantastic – Steven helped answer any questions I had and kept in frequent communication with the status of the order.

My husband bought an E-Cargo Classic Long bike from Amsterdam Bicycle Company about 2 years ago. It was such a success with our kids and got us doing more and more things on our bikes rather than the car that I decided to replace my old bike with the Azor Amsterdam E-Bike – Ladies. I got the electric assist because our area is hilly and I saw how helpful the electric assist was for the cargo bike. Plus, now that my husband and I are vaccinated, it’s nice to be able to wear a nice dress and ride the bike to go out for drinks and dinner because with the electric assist I don’t become a sweaty mess going up hills.
Steven was really helpful and made shipment of the bike to the US and assembly really easy.
Highly recommended as a way to avoid using the car and also to live a little bit of the Amsterdam experience in the US.
