Amazing bike and amazing customer service! I shopped around quite a bit before finally deciding on the Azor Jersey. Steven and I emailed back and forth several times while I was deliberating, and he always answered my questions quickly and thoroughly. I ordered the bike on June 20, and I received it by FedEx freight on September 2 (note: the Azor factory takes holiday at the end of summer, so that explains a bit of the wait). But it is worth it!
The bike is mostly assembled, but you’ll need a little bit of knowledge to get everything finished when you receive it. You’ll have to insert and adjust the handlebars/stem, install the front fender and front wheel, plug in the dynamo hub (if you opted for that…why wouldn’t you??!), hook up the front roller brake, and install the saddle. All straightforward, but Dutch bikes are unique in some of their mechanicals….luckily I’ve had a bakfiets for over a decade, so I was ready 🙂
The bike rides like a dream. Nothing else I have comes close to comfort and just “put-together-ness”. It just works!
I absolutely recommend going through Steven and Amsterdam Bicycle Company for your next Dutch bike.

Is it wrong to love a bike? I hope not. I have been riding it on my 5.5 mile commute pretty much daily for a month or so and it has been delightful.
The Jersey is very understated and unassuming but a beautiful machine:
– The steel frame and fork result in a smooth ride and soak up minor vibrations. I always wondered how much benefit there is from a suspension fork. I have to pay a bit more attention to big bumps and potholes.
– I specially requested the nexus 8 with a coaster brake (and front roller brake). The freedom of the coaster brake is wonderful and the gear range is surprisingly adequate. I was concerned about powering a heavy bike up hills and into the wind but the range is just about ideal. I would say it is similar to my old 21 speed minus the very lowest gear.
– The weight is not really noticeable. Something about the seat tube angle and steel frame just seems to beg for speed and I find myself actually getting across town faster than on the hybrid.
– The riding position while comfortable actually allows for a full leg extension so I think it is really more efficient.
– Dynamo hub and wired taillight are a must. The basic headlight is adequate but I might want to upgrade to one with a stand light so it doesn’t flicker off at each stop.
– Front rack and double kick stand are great. The fact that the rack is removable makes it an easy choice.
– Tires are 700 x 35C which may be narrower than other models. The Schwalbe Marathon Plus upgrade is worth it.
Finish assembling was doable for someone with basic bike maintenance skills. The fork crown bolt was a bit fiddly and I wound up replacing the cap nut with a lock nut to keep it tight.
I love splashing through the slush and not worrying about brakes or having to clean the chain. No more banding my pants leg. Yay!
Bottom line…a great bike and buying experience. Looking forward to many years with the Jersey.
