Sturdy front and back carriers allow you to take a bag, laptop, or whatever you like on your journey, and it’s these features that helped the Ladies Ameland take Amsterdam by storm.

I purchased the Ameland Azor for my wife recently. The bike is beautiful and turns heads everywhere in St. Paul, Minnesota.
And while the bike is incredibly special and I would highly recommend it, the service at Amsterdam Bicycle was as good as it gets. From the day we completed the order form we were in touch with Steven Verschuijl. He made absolutely certain the we had the right bike, the right sizing, the right features, and the right color to make the the bike “just right”!
He not only kept us informed as to timing and delivery but followed up to make sure the delivery went well and the bike was in perfect shape with no shipping issues.

I have been in and had my own business for over 40 years, so I am sensitive to costumer service and if I could add additional stars to the rating for the service and care that Steven provided I would do so in a heartbeat.

Well done Amsterdam Bicycle and Thank you Steven. Happy riding!

I purchased the Ameland for my wife to ride to work, about 1.5 mi one way with some medium hills. She loves it. I like to raise the saddle and take it for a spin around our neighborhood too!

Quality is great. Pearl Blue paint job is beautiful. Every other bike we have has traditional external derailleurs and caliper brakes (or is a single speed), but the Shimano Nexus drive train and roller brakes are really nice.
This our first Dutch-style city bike, and it is so much fun to ride, sitting upright and totally relaxed. You really do have a great view of the road and are more visible to cars. I found assembly easy, but I do have some experience doing routing maintenance on our other bikes.

Steven was great and kept us updated throughout the process. I recommend Amsterdam Bicycle Company and Azor bikes without reservation.

I looked everywhere for a comfortable upright bike in my city. But nothing like the bikes I rode in The Hague. I was a little suspicious of buying online – but the owner was extremely attentive to detail and made everything both easy and perfect.
I have never written an online review before but this time felt inspired to!
    Amazing bikes and service!

Please refer to my review of Ameland – Gent’s bike regarding Steven’s service, which is excellent!
The ladies bike itself is wonderful. Unlike most bikes on States side, these are made to last. Sturdy and practical. Should last many years.

    Well done, Steven!
Before I ordered my bike, I had many questions, trying to decide between two different bikes, and various options. I asked them in an email and received a phone call within minutes from Steven. It was late here in Michigan. It was much later in Amsterdam. Steven answered all of my questions and left me to choose between the two units I was considering. (It is humbling to speak to someone in a foreign country who speaks better English than most of the people I know…)
The next day I ordered a completely different configuration and expected the delivery in 5 or 6 weeks. I think it took 3 weeks. The shipment was delivered with several minor dents and short rips enlarging the hand holes in the box. The FedEx driver properly reported damage to the package. Before she left I had already determined the contents were fine. Steven had tracked my shipment and wrote me immediately, concerned about the reported damage to the container and the condition of my bike. I assured him everything was in perfect condition.

Since delivery day, I have taken way more time than needed to finish assembly of this excellent machine. I treated it as “play time” and fussed over every possible thing. In my working life, I have been a motorcycle mechanic, a machinist, and a die maker. I am used to working to close tolerances on complex machines. I studied the manuals for the sub-assemblies which Steven sent me. I was fully prepared for an intense assembly experience. Wow, I was overly concerned!
It seems each bike is completely assembled at the factory. Only the parts necessary to fit into the shipping box are removed or rearranged for shipping. I was worried about assembling the roller brake hubs and the gearbox. I had been studying the manuals for days. NOT NEEDED!
Put the front wheel on. Put the handlebar post in place. Put the seat post in place. Put the pedals on. Hook up some cables and wires. That is pretty much it. The rest is tuning and adjusting it to fit your body.

I asked Steven plenty of questions before and during assembly. The man is excellent at his job. He made the entire process a pleasure.
Thank you, Steven, I’ll keep in touch.

Thank you for your great review Sam!

About replacing the cables: there is no for that, because all cables (and nuts, bolts, fender stays, spokes etc) of the Ameland already are made of stainless steel.

Please wish K. many comfortable and relaxed rides from me!

Ordered one for my wife. She found it after a long while because she wanted a cruiser but I disliked the general poor quality of anything sold as a cruiser.

She was very happy with the constant communication when ordering something from across the pond. Bike arrived exactly on time.

The color is gorgeous, and the build and assembly quality were done well. I am probably too overzealous about hunting for things so I’d probably spent 6mo on looking at hundreds of cruiser and city bike designs. Its interesting to me how well designed these Dutch bikes are. Like a road bike uses a lot of fancier technology, but single features are not holistic design, if you understand what I mean.

I had a handful of questions finishing the assembly, and Steven called me in the middle of the day in Chicago to answer everything. Very much appreciated.

She says it rides like a dream.

My one complaint was that a zip tie on the back light cable was overtightened. I may also replace the cables with stainless steel as I find they crack, but thats a universal problem.

All in all I think the bike is worth the price.

My friends asked why in the world did I order a bike from the Netherlands? I asked them who rides more on a daily basis than the Dutch! I was very pleased with the entire purchase, delivery & assembly (Really impressive.) I was very pleased with the communication from Amsterdam Bicycle and the Velotooler.
I highly recommend purchasing one of their bikes. Outstanding quality I am loving my new bike for cruising around the island. Oh of course I am Dutch but you don’t have to be to purchase a Great bike…..

My parents and 3 of my siblings were born in Holland. My parents told us stories about all the bikes in Amsterdam, and how sometimes they ended up in a canal. This started my fascination with a Dutch bike.

What a wonderful experience I had working with Steven. He would respond quickly and always had answers to my questions. I received my Bike when promised. The Asbury Cycle Shop in Asbury Park, NJ picked up by bicycle (Betty) and put her together and returned her the next day. It was an amazing experience and I’m looking forward to buying a similar bike for my husband. Thanks!!!

p.s. she is in my living room staying warm!

I went to the Netherlands and I took a liking to their style of bicycle. So, for the first bike I’ve ever purchased for myself, I chose Amsterdam Bicycle Company. Their customer service has been exceptional. Steven, my customer service representative, reached out at every stage of the process to inform me and to make sure that any of my concerns were taken care of. Thank you Steven, I would recommend your services to anyone.

As for the Velotooler service, there was a bit of a problem where they couldn’t render their services properly. I was told it was because I live in California so they had trouble finding a way to offer the same service. The service that I missed out on was where I was to have the bike already made and delivered- but instead it came in a box, partly built, and I had to bring it to a local mechanic to finish the build. But I didn’t find this to be too troubling and I don’t see this as a blemish on their service. Velotooler found the mechanic in advance, informed them and myself, and made sure I didn’t have to pay a dime for the build.
They don’t seem like a company to allow this to happen twice and it was a small problem comparable to the overall great quality of service they gave. So I recommend them!

This was going to be my first bicycle that was completely my own so I wanted it to be something I would love. My bicycle is stunning to look at and I’m so excited to ride it around. It’s so well made and it has the enclosed chain guard, which I love!
The bike rides as smooth as silk and it’s really quite impressive! I’m convinced I chose the best bike I could have ever found for myself.

The online buying process was one of the best experiences I have ever had and I felt a lot of confidence that I was choosing the right shop to purchase my bike. Steven was exceptionally helpful and checked in with me and made sure I chose the correct frame size and that I didn’t buy anything I didn’t need. The delivery was pretty quick and it all arrived perfectly. The FedEx driver even carted the box to my garage in the alley and how serendipitous was that‽

All the Velotooler mechanic appointment set-up was taken care of for me. The bike mechanic came to me and put the bike together and he made it a really positive experience too! Everyone worked so well together and I could hardly believe how lucky I was to be able to get this wonderful bike along with five-star service from everyone involved!

  12. Thea (verified owner)

Amazing bicycle and one of the best customer service experiences I have ever had. I used the Velotooler service and they were great, as well. The bike is an amazing ride, stable and smooth and effortless. It’s gorgeous and everyone who has seen it is smitten. Every time I look at it I am inspired to ride. It handles beautifully in the snow and on country roads (read: mud and dirt). I love it so much! Thank you, Steven, for such a fantastic experience!!

  13. Donald King (verified owner)

Excellent customer service and a fantastic buying experience. I ordered two bikes, one for me and one for my wife. I had both bikes in about two weeks. Excellent communication from Steven along the way. I ordered with the 85% complete option. I found assembly to be fairly easy and straight forward. As for the bike, My wife loves it.
